About todo

todo means everything

todo is the software practice of Martha, a developer, writer, and product consultant working between Mexico City, New York, and Berlin. The name is a to-do list and a translation: todo is Spanish for “everything,” which is roughly what running a small cultural organization requires of people, and roughly what their websites are asked to do on a budget of nearly nothing.

Before todo, Martha co-founded Withfriends, a Y Combinator-backed platform that helped more than a hundred cultural institutions build membership and crowdfunding programs. That experience left two convictions: that cultural organizations deserve the same quality of tools as venture-backed startups, and that most of the tech industry has no idea how to talk to them.

todo exists to close that gap. We build in the open-source tradition — tools you own, code you can read, sites that outlast the contract — and we work in English and Spanish.

We believe websites should be owned, not rented; that accessibility is a baseline, not a feature; and that the best thing technology can do for culture is get out of its way.
